All-on-4 is an implant procedure, wherein only 4 implants are utilized for providing the patients with fixed full-arch prosthesis. When bone loss is present, and bone graft procedures like sinus lift, etc and/or nerve repositioning is required, but if the patient is not willing to go for these procedures or if she/he is medically compromised, All-on-4 can be done excluding these procedures.
What is the procedure?
This procedure includes placement of two implants in the anterior/front region of the jaw and placement of 2 implants at an angle, in the posterior region of the jaw. The entire arch is loaded with fixed prosthesis only with the support of 4 implants.
What are the advantages?
- A fixed prosthesis is provided on the day of surgery itself, which results in immediate restoration of function and aesthetics.
- The number of implants is reduced; therefore the treatment time is drastically reduced.
- Bone grafting procedures are eliminated.
- It is cost-effective.
What are the disadvantages?
- The support for the entire jawbone is attained only with the help of 4 implants, which is drastically less compared to the support offered by our natural teeth.
- As the implants in the posterior region are tilted, bone loss might occur in long run.
- Periimplantitis might occur around tilted implants.
Therefore, before arriving at a conclusion, proper guidance from a well-trained Dentist is crucial.
