Today we completed a complicated orthodontic case in which the patient had an anterior reverse bite. The right lateral incisor was palatally placed, there was significant crowding, and the midline was severely shifted. This case was treated with Invisalign clear aligners.
In this case, the anterior crossbite, that is, the reverse bite, was corrected. The midline correction also took a long time, but it is now completely matched. The lateral incisor, which was positioned palatally, was moved outward and is now properly aligned within the arch.
However, the gingival contour around the lateral incisor was not matching the adjacent anterior teeth. So, laser crown lengthening was performed to improve the gingival symmetry and match the gum line with the surrounding incisors, and that is how we completed this case.
It was definitely a very challenging case and it took longer than usual to finish, but now the midlines are matched, the crowding is relieved, the reverse bite is corrected, and the overall aesthetics is improved.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON PROBLEMS TREATED WITH COSMETIC DENTISTRY?
Short teeth – Whether due to genetics or gradual wear, short teeth seldom convey the message that you’re hoping to get across. Short teeth can make a smile look small and weak, and cause you sensitivity/discomfort. If your front teeth are abbreviated, you may be interested in porcelain veneers. These restorations add length and structure, and they do so without giving themselves away as dental work. Veneers are ideal for front teeth because they are thin, durable, and aesthetically ideal. They also require less tooth reduction than crowns, leaving much of your natural teeth intact.
Crooked teeth – Crooked front teeth are common and widespread. It’s rare for a smile to develop in a completely straight way. If you weren’t able to receive orthodontic treatment as a child, or your front teeth have become crooked in adulthood, there are still options. If your front teeth are only mildly crooked, veneers may actually straighten them, without requiring orthodontic treatment.
Gaps between teeth – Gaps may form as a result of gum recession, genetics, periodontal disease, or shifting teeth. They’re easily resolved with dental bonding, a same-appointment solution. Dr. Pankti Patel will shape tooth-colored dental composite chair side, then bond it in place and harden it with a curing light.
Chipped or cracked teeth – Accidents happen, and it’s not rare for a tooth to become slightly chipped. If the problem is superficial, bonding could resolve the problem. If it runs deeper and the tooth is cracked, a veneer or a crown will improve the tooth’s appearance while strengthening it structurally.
Discoloured or spotty teeth – Whether your teeth are yellow from drinking coffee, tobacco use, or daily glasses of red wine, they don’t have to remain darkened. Teeth whitening will break up staining compounds within the enamel, leading to a brighter, happier smile that you’re excited to show off. If your teeth refuse to whiten, veneers will give them a new, superficial layer
Missing Teeth – Missing teeth can be one of the most frustrating problems people face when it comes to their smile. In addition to being unsightly and embarrassing, missing teeth can cause serious long-term deterioration to the jaw and jeopardize the health of adjacent teeth.
Gummy Smile – Many people are self-conscious about having a gummy smile, where the gums are more visually prominent and out of balance with the teeth. Using advanced laser gum recontouring, one can create the pleasing appearance you desire with minimally invasive techniques that heal quickly.
A comprehensive approach to cosmetic dentistry means looking at what is causing the cosmetic symptom, and making sure all aspects of your dental health are addressed. We want you to have teeth and gums that are not only attractive, but strong and healthy. After meeting with you for an in-depth discussion of your goals and an assessment of your dental health, we will recommend a range of treatments and treatment alternatives that will be a good fit.

How Smile Makeovers Help Correct More Than Just Tooth Color The Top Smile Makeover Cosmetic Dentist of Ahmedabad often meets patients who think a smile makeover is only about whitening stained teeth, but the scope of treatment is much broader than that. A smile makeover can address multiple cosmetic and functional concerns at the same time, which is why it is often one of the most transformative dental treatment plans available. Tooth color may be one part of the problem, but many patients also have worn edges, uneven tooth lengths, small gaps, chipped enamel, visible old fillings, minor crowding, or excess gum display that affect smile aesthetics. A proper smile makeover begins by identifying which of these concerns are present and how they interact with facial appearance and oral function. The Top Smile Makeover Cosmetic Dentist of Ahmedabad usually combines different procedures such as veneers, whitening, aligners, cosmetic bonding, gum contouring, or crowns depending on the patient’s needs. In some cases, improving the smile also means correcting the bite or replacing missing teeth to support overall harmony. This is why smile makeovers are highly customized rather than one-size-fits-all treatments. A patient with uneven front teeth and dark old restorations may need a very different plan from someone whose main concern is spacing and tooth color. Digital smile planning helps show how small changes in tooth shape and alignment can affect the whole face. Patients often find that a smile makeover improves not just aesthetics but also confidence in social, professional, and personal situations. Modern cosmetic dentistry aims for natural-looking enhancement rather than artificial perfection, and that requires thoughtful design. Long-term stability is also important, which is why the underlying gum health, bite forces, and tooth condition must be evaluated before cosmetic treatment begins. The best smile makeovers are usually the ones that look effortless and suit the patient’s age, face, and personality. The Top Smile Makeover Cosmetic Dentist of Ahmedabad focuses on balancing beauty, comfort, and durability so that the final result feels as good as it looks.
WHAT IS TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ)? Temporomandibular joints connect the jawbone to the skull. It is an articulation, synovial in nature, between the skull and the mandible (Lower Jaw). Its main function is lower jaw movement.
WHAT IS TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER (TMD)? A disease related to the jaws and its joints which might include the muscles of your face is known as TMJ disorder.
WHAT CAUSES TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER (TMD)? A heavy blow during a fight/sports, clenching/grinding of the teeth, dislocation of the disc, arthritis, improper occlusion/bite, a developmental defect, improper fusion of fractured jaw bone, or trauma might cause TMD.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER? – Difficulty Chewing. The patient might experience pain in the ear, jaw or face. – There might be difficulty in opening/closing of the jaws, in chewing. – Muscle spasms and clicking sounds in the joints. – Joint locking may be present. – Other Symptoms: Headache, Pain in the neck or shoulders, A tired feeling in your face, ringing in your ears, Swelling on the side of your face.
WHY IS EARLY TREATMENT RECOMMENDED? – The damage is irreversible, hence earlier the treatment, lessen the damage. An early treatment prevents a chronic disorder. – Another major concern is the cost factor. Once the pain is neglected and TMD reaches an advanced stage, joint replacement becomes crucial, which is extremely expensive.
HOW IS TMD DIAGNOSED? – Clinical Evaluation: is done in order to locate the areas of pain, discomfort or for clicking sound. – Radiographic evaluation: might be done as well in order to locate the changes in the jawbone and joints (eg. X-ray, CBCT, MRI). – Arthroscopy: is used for diagnosis, at times, during which the doctor inserts a cannula in the joint space, followed by the insertion of a small camera known as an arthroscope in order to view the affected area and arrive at a diagnosis.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT OF TMJ DISORDER? Treatments range from simple self-care practices and conservative treatments to injections and open surgery. Most experts agree that treatment should begin with conservative, nonsurgical therapies, with surgery left as the last resort. > Restrictions: Avoid extreme jaw movements. > Medications: Pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants, Trigger point injections. > Oral splints/ mouthguard. > Physiotherapy: Exercises for strengthening and relaxing jaw muscles. > Therapy: Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), Radio Wave Therapy, Laser Therapy, UltraSound. > The last resort is surgery. It includes arthrocentesis (This minor procedure is performed in the office, usually under local anesthesia), open-joint surgery.

Why Is Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Often Misunderstood Until Symptoms Get Worse? Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – Best TMD Specialist in Ahmedabad is an area of care that many patients do not seek until symptoms become persistent and disruptive. One reason TMD is often misunderstood is that the early symptoms may not look like a jaw problem at all. Patients may first notice headaches, facial muscle tightness, ear discomfort, neck tension, or difficulty chewing certain foods. Because these symptoms overlap with stress, sinus problems, migraines, or ear issues, the connection to the jaw joint is frequently missed. Another reason is that occasional clicking in the jaw is often ignored until it turns into pain, restricted opening, or locking episodes. A Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – Best TMD Specialist in Ahmedabad usually evaluates not only the joint itself but also the muscles, bite, chewing habits, sleep clenching, and overall jaw function. Stress-related clenching, nighttime grinding, missing teeth, bite imbalances, trauma, and poor posture can all contribute to TMD symptoms. Patients who delay evaluation may develop more chronic muscle tension and joint strain over time. Modern TMD care often includes a combination of splint therapy, habit correction, physiotherapy, bite management, stress reduction, and targeted medication when needed. The exact treatment depends on whether the main problem is muscular, joint-related, bite-related, or a combination of factors. Another important point is that not every clicking jaw requires aggressive treatment, but persistent pain or functional difficulty should not be ignored. Early diagnosis can help prevent the problem from becoming more complex. Patients also benefit from learning what daily habits make symptoms worse, such as chewing gum excessively, clenching during work, sleeping on the jaw, or eating very hard foods. Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – Best TMD Specialist in Ahmedabad plays a key role in helping patients understand the source of their symptoms and choose a conservative, structured plan for long-term jaw comfort and function.
